This will be a three part series about what we like to ride individually. We will talk about the bikes we ride and how we went about the process.
Part I: Aaron's Bikes
My road bike is a Serotta Legend Ti with Dura Ace and Reynolds MV 32c Carbon wheels. The Frame is Serotta's top end titanium frame. Although the frame is available with a (totally unique to Serotta) carbon seat stay, I went with all titanium construction. I decided to go with a full ti frame for two reasons, One, I wanted a stiff, durable frame that could stand up to what some would consider as an "abusive riding style". That is to say I tend to ride it off-road regularly. The second reason is admittedly somewhat shallow, titanium as a material is just beautiful. I went with Serotta for the handling and drivetrain feel. Serotta bikes are very stable at very high speeds, this bike corners like a dream. I had them raise the bottom bracket slightly for a bit more nimble feel and so that there is less chance of pedal strike while cornering. I've had it for five years now and I will never sell it. There will be plenty more bikes but this one is just perfect.
My mountain bike is a Seven Sola titanium hardtail with a Fox fork, Chris King/DT wheels, Hope brakes and XTR drivetrain. As a tall guy, there are not many off the shelf mountain bikes that fit me. I've never held onto a mountain bike for more than a year. This bike is keeper. Seven was really receptive to my preferences for the bikes handling character, I like a slightly rearward center of gravity and a slightly shorter stem. The tubing selection is perfect. The bike is plenty stiff and it absorbs the terrain just enough to keep it comfy. The bike descends really well too, I was a bit apprehensive about getting back on a hardtail after about 10 years on suspension bikes but I have been pleasantly surprised.
My other mountain bike is a Retrotec 29r with a rigid fork and the best paint job ever. This bike is built by Curtis Inglis, a small builder in Napa. Curtis builds some beautiful stuff
My next bike(s): Parlee Z3 custom, Yeti 575, cross bike probably from Seven but we'll see.
